Selective Mutism (SM) is defined by the DSM-5-TR, as an anxiety disorder that prevents individuals from communicating socially; there may be other comorbidities associated with the disorder, such as intellectual disability. The aim of this case study is to present the use of avatars in the treatment of MS. In this study, a case study will be presented using the AR Zone Samsung application in psychotherapy sessions with a female patient, 17 years old, diagnosed with SM and intellectual disability. Avatars can faithfully reproduce the human face allowing choices to be made. Twelve psychological sessions were conducted with effective results using avatars as facilitators of communication in the treatment of SM. The results obtained in this intervention allow for understandings related to the use of technology, showing its effectiveness for the treatment of MS.
