Abstract

Contemporary theoretical models consider high abilities as resulting from the interaction of several factors, such as specific skills, personality traits, creativity, motivation and influence from family and school environments. This conception highlights that the support programs for gifted people need to adopt strategies that favor the development of cognitive and psychosocial aspects. From this perspective, the aim of this article is to report the experience of a program for social skills development, aimed at gifted adolescents. The article also discusses possible strategies by which the school psychologist may contribute to foster both the healthy psychological development of students with high abilities and the development of their talents.
