Abstract

Creativity is studied in different contexts and populations. This study aimed to investigate the perception of Psychology students about creativity in the classroom. 110 university students participated, 17 to 65 years old (M=25; SD=8.15), mostly women (80%), from colleges in the interior of São Paulo. An open-ended questionnaire was applied. Through content analysis, it was identified that most participants defined creativity as innovation (16.34%), utility (9.80%) and motivation (8.28%). The creative teacher was characterized as dynamic (12.17%), innovative (11.50%), and motivated/motivating (11.28%). The variables identified as most stimulating creativity were encouragement (11.59%) and teacher´s dynamism (10.51%), teacher preparation (9.78%), and interaction/communication (8.70%). The variables indicated as more inhibiting were authoritarianism (16.36%), student lack of motivation (11.52%) and conservatism (8.48%). It was concluded that the participants consider creativity relevant in professional training. New research is suggested that involves other undergraduate courses and regions of the country.
